An investigation into a two-vehicle collision involving a hit-and-run in Wilmot Township is now ongoing through Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), now searching for answers and seeking public help in identifying and finding a connected individual.

Officers said the incident was first reported on Mar. 17, at around 9 p.m. in the area of New Dundee Road and Bridge Street, with reports speaking of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection.

When officers arrived on scene, they found one vehicle still on-site, while the other driver had fled the scene before police arrived.

The individual who remained at the site of the collision is said to have suffered some minor injuries as a result of that crash.

WRPS is now searching for the black Ford F-150 that was involved in the collision, saying it likely has significant damage to its front end.

Alongside the description of the vehicle, WRPS has also released a photo of an individual involved, whom they’re hoping to identify and speak with regarding the ongoing investigation.

They’re seeking public help in finding that individual, now asking that anyone with information on the collision, dash-cam footage, or knowledge of the vehicle or individual reach out to WRPS at 519‑570‑9777.

Anonymous tips can be provided to Waterloo Regional Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.

With March now in the rear-view mirror, residents across Waterloo Region are reflecting on what’s been a wet start to spring.

According to local experts, though, it was actually the wettest, rainiest month of March in 15 years.

The details come from the E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station at the University of Waterloo, which said the combination of heavy rainfall and days of above seasonal temperatures made it the “first warmer than average month since last October.”

“There were three really wet days during March, including over 35 mm on the 31st,” the weather station said.

“The total for the month was 128.2 mm, almost double the average of 65.8. This was the wettest March since 2011 and the sixth wettest in the history of records in the region that go back to 1914.”

While much of the attention towards the end of the month was focused on rainfall, of course, snowfall was also top of mind closer to the beginning of the month.

Data showing precipitation levels measured for March, 2026 (E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station)

While it had its impacts for drivers at the tail end of winter, the weather station confirmed that the total amount of snowfall for March was barely pushing into double digits.

“After a strong start to the snowfall season, there were only 13.5.0 cm, about half the average of 26.5 cm,” the station said.

“This makes the total for the snowfall season at 239.5 cm, clearly well above the average of a typical season of 159.7 cm. For now, this is the third-highest total for a single snowfall season in the region, but of course, there can still be snow in April.”

Fluctuating temperatures were also a prevalent part of the month, with the weather station showing that the region reached a high of 20.4 C, first hitting that temperature on Mar. 30.

Meanwhile, temperatures dipped by nearly the same degree, hitting as low as -19.3 C.

With Easter weekend fast approaching, there’s quite a lengthy list to watch out for when it comes to what will be opened and what will be closed across the long weekend.

Importantly, for those across Waterloo Region who still need to have their garbage picked up, waste collection efforts will not be impacted on Good Friday.

Apart from that, there’s a good amount of closures and changes to watch out for, including Grand River Transit (GRT) shifting to its reduced holiday schedule throughout the course of the weekend.

As well, a majority of administrative officers throughout the Tri-Cities and the townships, community centres, pools, and arenas will be closed for Good Friday and may be operating on reduced or varied hours through the remainder of the weekend.

For those looking for something to do throughout the weekend, though, there are a good number of events to enjoy.

Some of those include:

Easter Egg Fest at Doon Heritage Village – Friday, Apr. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spring Fling Family Easter Celebration at McDougall Cottage – All weekend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mini Egg Hunts and Activities at Schneider Haus – All weekend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Egg-Stravaganza at Schneider Haus – Saturday, Apr. 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Easter Monday at McDougall Cottage – Monday, Apr. 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

And more…

For those travelling, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers that they’ll be out keeping an eye on those highways and roads throughout the weekend, asking that everyone drive accordingly and responsibly this Easter weekend.

A 39-year-old from Cambridge and two youths, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old, are dead after a serious collision between a transport truck and an SUV in Norwich Township.

Details coming from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said calls came in at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 31, of the incident at the intersection of Highway 59 and Quaker Street in Norwich, just south of Woodstock.

Officers said five people were occupying the SUV at the time of the incident, three of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, with two others being taken by Ornge air ambulance as well as ground paramedics to hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries.

The three who were pronounced dead at the scene include the 39-year-old from Cambridge, as well as the two teenagers who were from Tillsonburg.

While details as to the ages of the three who were killed have been revealed, no further information has been given by OPP about everyone who was impacted.

OPP noted the driver of the transport truck was not hurt.

Investigations are still underway through both West Region and Oxford detachments of OPP, looking to find the series of events that led to the collision.

The area was closed for several hours as the initial investigation was underway, but has since reopened.

OPP are now asking for any information, including dash-cam and security footage, as well as any witnesses to reach out.

A new arrest and additional charges have been laid, marking the third arrest tied to a stabbing incident in Cambridge.

The incident originally occurred on Monday, Mar. 23, at around 10:30 a.m. when officers with Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) were sent to the area of Scrimger and Ballantyne Avenues in the city for a reported stabbing.

When they arrived on scene, those officers found a 31-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Later in the day, WRPS said it was able to locate and arrest two individuals, a 33-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both from Cambridge, in connection with the incident.

Those two were charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Aggravated Assault.

Now, over a week later, WRPS said its South Division Street Crime Team located a third individual tied to the incident, with its Emergency Response Team executing a “high-risk arrest” on Tuesday, Mar. 31, right on Hespeler Road.

The service said the wanted man was arrested on scene without incident.

The 45-year-old man has now been charged with similar charges as the other two, with the addition of breaching a release order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

March may be in the rear-view mirror, with April only just arriving, but in the City of Kitchener, thoughts are already turning to the Christmas season as the search for vendors ahead of the 30th annual Christkindl Market has officially begun.

The regional staple is marking three decades as one of the community’s most well-attended festivals, drawing close to 70,000 visitors through its 2025 season.

“Kitchener’s Christkindl Market has been a beloved part of the annual holiday season for generations of residents and visitors in the lead up to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and all the celebrations in December of each year,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic.

“We’re proud to be celebrating this incredible 30th anniversary milestone with our community and are thrilled to offer a bigger, better and longer festival that will create memories for residents, visitors and vendors alike.”

Heading into 2026, the city said it’s hoping to surpass that number after seeing steady growth in recent years and being named as one of the Top 100 festivals and events in the province by Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO).

The City of Kitchener said it has a goal of hitting 100,000 visitors in 2026, hoping an expansion to two consecutive weekends will help the market achieve it.

“Christkindl is always a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent and creativity of our thriving local businesses, and I can’t wait to share with everyone what we have in store this year,” said Vrbanovic.

With spring now sprung in Waterloo Region, the search for vendors is now underway to fill this year’s Christkindl Market. The city said vendor selection will be prioritized by:

Some voting changes are on the way for the City of Waterloo, which is set to pilot a new initiative looking to support at-home voting options ahead of the upcoming municipal election.

The move comes after discussions amongst city councillors during their latest meeting, with a motion looking to add new options to vote for those who are sick, injured, or disabled.

Those options include residents being able to assign a proxy to cast their ballot on their behalf.

“Voters unable to attend a voting location in person can also assign a proxy to cast their ballot,” the city said in a release.

“The vote at home pilot will provide an additional option for those who may prefer not to assign a proxy.”

The City of Kitchener has said it already plans to integrate drive-thru and at-home voting options into its election process as well, but did specify that it would stay away from directly online methods in order to dissuade cybersecurity concerns.

“The City of Kitchener was presenting their information about their voting process for this year, and I just want to say that it was very well received that we are including the home voting option,” said Councillor Sandra Hanmer.

“I know we had one-off done it with a few residents in my ward through the last two elections, and I know it’s going to be very well received.”

Voter turnout is also set to be a priority for the city, which said it will continue with its popular Supervote locations as well as extend voting hours over the Thanksgiving weekend.

“This enables voters to vote at a location more convenient to them and provides an additional option to the local polling station,” the city said.

“Advance voting on Thanksgiving weekend has also been popular, providing an opportunity for those who attend school in other cities to vote while at home for the holiday weekend. ”

The municipal election is slated for the fall, coming up on October 26.

With heightened temperatures and heavy rainfall expected across Waterloo Region, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has issued a flood watch across the entirety of the Grand River watershed.

It comes following the above seasonal conditions seen in the region, with temperatures expected to remain in double digits over the coming days, alongside heavy amounts of precipitation throughout the week.

Forecasts currently show as much as 50 to 50 mm of rainfall across Waterloo Region through the wrap-up to March and the beginning of April.

“The forecasted rainfall is expected to generate significant runoff, leading to rising water levels,” the GRCA said in a statement. “As a result, this event will increase the potential risk of flooding in areas typically prone to flooding.”

Those impacted areas stretch across the entire Grand River watershed, including:

Grand Valley

Waldemar

Drayton

West Montrose

The Village of Conestogo

New Hamburg

Ayr

Brantford

Six Nations

Caledonia

Cayuga

Dunnville

“High flows and unstable ice conditions will increase the safety risk around rivers and streams throughout the watershed,” GRCA said. “The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways.”

Families are encouraged to keep themselves, pets, and children away from all local watercourses for the time being, also reminding the public to stay off any ice-covered waterbodies due to those unsafe conditions.

The GRCA’s message and flood watch are expected to remain in effect through 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 7.
