The Township of North Dumfries is set to enter the spotlight next month, with filming for a new mini-series slated to hit the streets of Ayr.
The details come from a report put in front of the township’s council, which looked over a noise exemption bylaw and temporary traffic stoppages tied to the filming.
It’s for a mini-series called “The System,” which will be headed to Disney and FX. While a majority of the filming will take place in Toronto, some local spots in Ayr will be used throughout the show.
Township council unanimously approved the required exemptions and stoppages, meaning filming will be permitted in key areas throughout the day from Wednesday Apr. 8, through to Friday Apr. 10.
Township staff, along with Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), will work to detour traffic through those impacted areas, which include areas of Piper Street, Church Street, and Stanley Street, between Northumberland and Piper Streets.
While the filming will require that noise exemption, it should be noted that no special effects have been requested or are required for the round of filming in Ayr.
The report lists 10 trucks, 10 picture cars, three cranes, five vans, and around 125 cast and crew members being planned for the upcoming shoot.
Council noted that this will be the third time since 2002 that the township has been used as a backdrop for television and film shoots.
