A widespread effort through Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has led to the arrest of 33 people in an ongoing child luring crackdown, including 7 men from across Waterloo Region.
The effort was all part of what OPP called ‘Project Series,’ which worked alongside 23 different police services across the province, including Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).
They say they worked to assess online chatrooms and social media applications to “identify, locate, and arrest persons looking to sexually exploit children.”
The joint project has led to a combined 136 charges, mainly consisting of offences centred around luring a person under 16 years old.
It’s also led to those 33 arrests, which include 4 men from Cambridge, 2 from Kitchener, as well as 1 from Baden.
Due to the nature of the incidents in question, OPP has said that much of the information pertaining to the accused, the victims, and the circumstances around those various cases cannot be revealed publicly.
They say this is due to ongoing publication bans that limit the details which can be revealed for the privacy and security of the victims involved.
