Charges have been laid, and various drugs have been seized, after Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) conducted a search warrant at a Cambridge business, which had been operating as a “secret location” for the dispensary, FunGuyz.
On its website, the magic mushroom dispensary had described what it called its “secret location,” which linked to a business called Vape Guys operating at 18 Ainslie St. S in downtown Galt, just off of Main Street.
“We at Funguyz truly believe that magic mushrooms can save the world,” said FunGuyz on its website.
“We do our best to make the industry grow and prosper every single day.”
On April 30, WRPS stated that its Street Crime Team and Direction Action Response Team (DART) completed a search warrant at the business, saying those officers “seized psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in various forms and Canadian currency.”
Officers said a 48-year-old woman from Wilmot was arrested and has now been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
“The Waterloo Regional Police Service wishes to emphasize to the public that the sale (trafficking) of psilocybin is a criminal offence under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), as psilocybin is categorized as a Schedule III controlled substance,” said WRPS in a statement.
“Businesses engaged in selling these products are operating unlawfully, and the substances they offer are neither regulated nor subject to standardized quality control measures.”
