Officers through Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) are investigating an early morning shooting at a local bank in Waterloo, which has left a 25-year-old in hospital with serious injuries.
WRPS said it received calls about the incident early Wednesday morning, at around 2:30 a.m., when officers were told of possible gunfire at a Scotiabank located at the corner of Fischer-Hallman Road and Erb Street West.
“The victim, an employee of the armoured vehicle company, had been approached by multiple unknown individuals and was subsequently shot,” said WRPS in a release.
The police service said the 25-year-old man had to be transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries.
Further than that, little is currently known or has been released by WRPS so far, with no details on the number of suspects, their descriptions, or if anything was directly stolen during the incident.
“Investigators from the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery Unit, with assistance from the General Investigations Unit, are continuing to investigate,” WRPS stated.
Officers have stated that they believe it was a targeted incident, with no current threat to public safety.
