Only 9 days before events were expected to get underway, the Cambridge Scottish Festival has announced that this year’s Highland Games have been cancelled.
The details come from the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO), which said that it was given notice that the Cambridge Highland Games have been called off.
“This is a surprise and very disappointing,” said PPBSO President, Malkie Bow.
“We had record band and solo entries this year, and there will be a lot of disappointed members.”
It said that all registered soloists, bands, and performers will be notified of the cancellation by email and “will, in due course, receive any entry fees back.
According to the PPBSO, no reasoning was given by the Cambridge Scottish Festival as to why the event was cancelled.
“We hope that the Cambridge Highland Games are able to recover and come back at some point in the future,” Bow said.
FM 985 CKWR has reached out to the Cambridge Scottish Festival Committee for comment, and details will be released as they are known.
