Now six years after the case was first reported, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to search for answers around a homicide investigation where a body was discovered just north of Guelph.
The incident was first reported back on Aug. 4, 2020, when the Wellington County Detachment of the OPP was called after a body was discovered along the roadway on Watson Road North, just south of Wellington Road 124.
The deceased was later identified as 25-year-old Mohamed Amin Ismail of Ottawa.
As of now, in 2026, little is still known about the case itself, what happened, or about any potential suspects involved, with OPP now reaching out to the public once again on the anniversary of the incident with hopes of digging up some possible leads.
“Investigators remain dedicated to finding those responsible for Mohamed’s death,” said Detective Inspector Michael Moore with OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
“If you have information, no matter how small or seemingly unrelated, now is the time to come forward.”
Investigators say they believe that residents across Wellington County, Ottawa, and throughout Waterloo Region may be able to provide possible information tied to the incident, saying “even seemingly insignificant details may help advance the case.”
