Vacant Woolwich home ‘engulfed in flames’ deemed suspicious: WRPS

A joint investigation is now underway through Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and the Ontario Fire Marshall after a residential fire at a vacant home in Woolwich Township has been deemed to potentially have suspicious origins.

Police said it all happened Tuesday morning, Sept. 9, at around 4:55 a.m., when emergency services were told of “a residence engulfed in flames” in the area of Sunset Place.

Police and the Woolwich Fire Department arrived on the scene, with fire crews able to contain and extinguish the blaze later that morning.

Luckily, no physical injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

As the investigation got underway surrounding the fire itself, the early findings have led regional police to contact the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall.

Officers said that, while the exact cause of the fire has yet to be revealed, they believe the fire to have had potentially suspicious origins.
