Election Day has arrived!
Monday, Oct. 26 marks the 2026 Municipal Election, with voters in over 400 municipalities across the province heading to the ballot boxes to decide who will be representing them in their cities and townships over the next four years.
“Today, residents across Ontario, including Kitchener, will shape their community’s future by voting in the 2026 municipal and school board election,” said the City of Kitchener in a statement.

“From local roads, parks and community programs to regional services and school board representation, the decisions made by elected officials have an impact on everyday life.”
Communities will be voting for mayor, ward councillor, regional councillor, and school board trustee positions, but before those residents can cast their ballots, there is a list of questions they need to ask before heading to the polls.

Can I vote?
Residents will first need to ensure they’re eligible to vote before heading to the polls for the 2026 Municipal Election.
Those voters are required to be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old or older
- Live in, own or rent property in, or be the spouse of an owner or tenant in their allotted municipality
- Not be prohibited from voting for any given reason
Residents across the region can also find out if they’re already registered to vote through their given municipality’s websites.
What do I bring?
Those voting in person for the 2026 Municipal Election should bring two pieces of identification with them, in order to prove both their identity and their address.
The list of acceptable voter identification documents includes an Ontario driver’s license, health card, or photo card, as well as an insurance policy, cancelled personalized cheque, income tax assessment, utility bill, post-secondary transcript, and more.
The full list of acceptable voter identification documents can be found on the Government of Ontario’s website.
While it’s not essential, residents can also bring their voter card if they received one, as it can help to expedite the process at the ballot box.
Where do I vote?
Voting locations will be dependent on municipalities and wards, with each resident being required to vote at specific locations within their ward.
The full list of details, locations, and more can be found on each municipality’s website.
Here is a list for each specific ward, its voting location, and any extra voting options listed across Waterloo Region:
