Guelph Police is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a GO train in Guelph.
Officers said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at around 3 p.m., saying “a person was fatally struck by a train near the Guelph Central GO Station.”
When those emergency services arrived, they said the individual had suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At this time, no further details about the victim are being released until officers are able to notify their family,” said Guelph Police in a statement.
The incident caused significant delays for transit riders into the evening, as Metrolinx said all trains were ground to a halt in the area until the initial police investigation was completed.
As of Wednesday morning, those impacted GO trains are back up and running.
