With construction complete on roundabout crosswalk safety measures, the Region of Waterloo wants to hear about your experiences using them.
A survey is now available on Engage Waterloo Region, and resident feedback will ensure our transportation infrastructure meets the community’s needs.
Over the fall and winter, the Region installed raised crosswalks at Homer Watson Boulevard and Block Line Road; button-activated flashing lights at Franklin Boulevard and Bishop Street North; and button-activated flashing lights and raised crosswalks at Erb Street West and Ira Needles Boulevard.
The safety measures are aimed at helping anyone walking or rolling feel more comfortable and safe crossing at roundabouts.
Improved lighting has also been installed, and new signs alert drivers to upcoming raised crosswalks and recommended speeds as they enter the roundabouts.
“These measures reflect our commitment to trying safer, more accessible transportation options in our community. We encourage everyone to participate in the survey and help shape the future of our infrastructure,” said Darryl Spencer, manager, Transportation Engineering.
Data from the survey, as well as through collection devices installed at the roundabouts, will guide recommendations about whether crosswalk improvements should be added to new or existing roundabouts.
The report will be shared with Regional Council in 2027.
