Some investments in traffic-calming and safety measures are on their way to the City of Cambridge, as the city works to make Saginaw Parkway safer with some new speed cushions before the kids head back to school.
The city said it will be installing speed cushions at six locations across the busy roadway, which had previously been identified by residents as an area of concern for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
“Speed cushions are designed to make streets safer for everyone. They help slow traffic and encourage safer driving,” the city said in a release.
“By reducing vehicle speeds, they create a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists, children, and families to access nearby schools, parks, and neighbourhoods, while maintaining access for emergency vehicles and public transit. ”

It comes after city council approved the project earlier in the year as part of its Speed Management Action Plan, hoping to improve road safety and create more comfortable spaces for residents across the community.
“The speed cushions on Saginaw Parkway are one of several traffic-calming initiatives being delivered through the 2026 Speed Management Action Plan, including speed cushions that are planned to be installed later this year on Preston Parkway and Grand Ridge Drive,” the city said.
“These targeted measures in locations where safety improvements are needed most is one way the City is helping build a transportation network that is safer and more accessible for all road users.”
The installation is set to cause some light delays for drivers as the month turns over, though, with construction set to last two weeks, beginning Monday, Aug. 24 and lasting through Friday, Sept. 4.
Drivers are being encouraged to follow all posted signage as construction gets underway, and also be mindful of where they park their vehicles, being asked to use their driveways or lower boulevard for parking, where permitted, during the course of the installations.
“The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents as these improvements are completed.”
