WRPS investigating after worker threatened at Ira Needles construction site

An investigation is ongoing through Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) after a construction worker was threatened while on the job at a site in Kitchener.

Officers said it all happened Thursday, Sept. 3, at around 10:25 p.m., when regional police were called about a reported weapons incident at a construction site in the area of Ira Needles Boulevard and Yellow Birch Drive in the west end of the city.

Through their early investigation, WRPS said that a rideshare vehicle attempted to make its way through a section of Ira Needles Boulevard that was closed off for construction, with a construction worker then informing the driver that the area was closed.

At that point, police said that a passenger then got out of the vehicle, pulled out a gun, and threatened that construction worker.

Police have stated that no injuries were reported during the incident, saying that the suspect in question fled on foot after the threats were made, last seen walking down Yellow Birch Drive.

As of now, no further details have been released about the suspect in question, with the investigation still ongoing through regional police.
