Ontario Provincial Police have laid careless driving charges in a crash from last summer that claimed the lives of a father and daughter from Cambridge.
It was on the morning of July 15 around 8:50 when OPP were called out to a two-vehicle rear-end crash on Highway 401 in Mississauga.
Police said there were four people inside the vehicle that was struck from behind. A 53-year-old woman and a 80-year-old man that were identified as a father and daughter from Cambridge were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other members of the same family in that vehicle were taken to hospital – one with serious injuries and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.
The lone occupant of the other involved vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation has now lead to charges against 56-year-old Samiul Kazmi, from Mississauga. He now faces two counts of dangerous operation causing death, as well as a charge of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
The accused was taken into police custody for a bail hearing on Oct. 29 and has since been released, scheduled to appear in a Brampton court in late January.
