After a heavy storm consisting of gusting winds and a torrential downpour led to the cancellation of Canada Day celebrations in North Dumfries, the local township is getting set to light those unused fireworks, with a community event to close out the summer.
The township announced its ‘Last Blast of Summer’ party, which is set to bring some performances, family fun, and those unused fireworks to Ayr.
“After Mother Nature had other plans for our July 1 Community Celebration, we’re excited to invite you to our rescheduled fireworks on Saturday, August 22 at Cowan Park,” the township said on its event page.
“Join us for one Last Blast of Summer, an evening to celebrate the season with neighbours, friends, and family before summer slips away.”
According to the township, the event will feature live musical performances from Eric Jackson and The Willow River Band, backyard games for families in attendance, as well as ice cream and cool treats.
The event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with the fireworks display currently set to launch at 9:30 p.m. once the sun has gone down.
