Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) has said there is a heavy police presence in a neighbourhood in the south end of Kitchener, all after gunshots were heard in the area.
The local service reported the incident on social media, posting that officers are “currently in the area of Ardelt Avenue and Hanson Avenue in Kitchener for reports of a gunshot.”
They’ve stated that there is a heavy police presence in the area, expected to remain on scene as the investigation unfolds.
Officers are asking residents to avoid the area for the time being.
It said more information will be provided when available.
UPDATE:
WRPS has since stated that the investigation is continuing, and has now confirmed that shots were fired in the area.
“No physical injuries have been reported,” WRPS said on social media, adding that “Investigators believe this was a targeted incident.”
Officers are still on site, continuing to ask residents to avoid the area.
