One in hospital after fuel truck ‘lost control,’ overturned in Wilmot crash: WRPS

An investigation is underway through Waterloo Regional Police Service, all after a collision involving a fuel truck and a pickup truck sent one person to hospital in Wilmot Township.

The incident happened back on Aug. 20, at around 4:30 p.m., when officers were called about the incident on Walker Road at Oxford-Waterloo Road.

“Through the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the fuel truck lost control while making a right turn, causing the vehicle to overturn,” said WRPS in a release.

“The tanker, which was carrying diesel fuel, then struck a passing pickup truck before coming to a rest on its side, resulting in a diesel fuel spill.”

The driver of the fuel truck was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck was treated on site by emergency services.

Due to the diesel spill, WRPS stated that the Ministry of Environment was notified and has since responded to the incident.

The investigation into the collision itself remains ongoing, with officers saying that charges are expected.
