It’ll mark the end of what’s been an award-winning and fun-filled career for Canada’s Polka King, Walter Ostanek, who’s set to make his final performance on stage at K-W Oktoberfest this coming season.
In a release from K-W Oktoberfest, Ostanek is said to be stepping away from performing after decades in the spotlight as one of the leading polka performers across the country.
“Through his longstanding involvement, Walter has become an enduring symbol of the Festival and its commitment to culture, music and community celebration,” said Tracy Van Kalsbeek, Executive Director of K-W Oktoberfest.
“We will miss him!”
Over his career, Ostanek has been named a recipient of the Order of Canada, been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame, and earned three Grammy awards, all while releasing over 50 studio albums.
Now, Ostanek said he’s ready to retire.
As part of his final send-off, K-W Oktoberfest has said that it will give the artist special recognition as he takes the stage one last time at Wilkommen Platz in downtown Kitchener from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11.
