A woman in Cambridge has been handed 15 charges by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) as part of an investigation tied to a series of thefts from vehicles in Cambridge.
Those incidents stretch from Sept. 7 through Sept. 22, with police saying they received seven reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the area of Gladstone Avenue and Aberdeen Road South.
The series of incidents led WRPS to launch an investigation through its South Division Direct Action Response Team (DART), which identified a woman believed to be involved in four of those thefts.
As a result, a 46-year-old Cambridge woman has been charged with a series of offences, including:
- Attempted theft under $5,000
- Theft under $5,000 (three counts)
- Mischief under $5,000
- Theft of identification documents
- Unauthorized possession of a credit card (three counts)
- Fraud under $5,000 (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime (three counts)
“As part of ongoing crime prevention efforts in the area, officers have also conducted Lock It or Lose It initiatives and provided residents with information on how to help prevent thefts from vehicles,” said WRPS in a release.
“Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles, remove valuables from sight, and avoid leaving wallets, identification documents, financial cards, or other valuables inside vehicles.”
The investigation, though, still remains ongoing as police search for further details around the other three reported thefts.
Anyone with details on the incidents or any potential suspects is asked to reach out to WRPS at 519-570-9777.
