A few local roadways have earned themselves a bit more notoriety after the CAA released the results for its annual Worst Roads Campaign, with Ira Needles topping the list across the region.
According to the latest findings, which look to identify the worst roads all across the province, Ira Needles Boulevard has taken the number one spot for the Western Region of Ontario.
“Each year, CAA invites Ontario drivers, cyclists, transit riders and pedestrians to nominate in the CAA Worst Roads campaign and tell us which roads need improvement,” said CAA on its website.
“Over the years, we have heard about potholes, congestion, poor road signs and other safety concerns.”
It now marks the fourth year in a row that Ira Needles has taken the top spot for the region, first taking the infamous position in 2023.

Meanwhile, there are other roadways throughout the region that also made it onto the list, with Trussler Road, which is the same road as Ira Needles, just a few paces back at the number four spot.
Arthur Street South and Barnswallow Drive in Elmira were both right in between, coming in at the number two and three spot respectfully, with York Road in Guelph taking number five.
According to CAA, the annual campaign works as a way to motivate municipalities into fixing some of those key roadways, saying, “Nominating Ontario’s Worst Roads helps shine the spotlight on where more work is needed.”
“Since 2003, CAA’s annual Worst Roads campaign has influenced change,” said CAA.
“Repaving and repair work has been done on many of the roads on Ontario’s Worst Roads list, with more to come.”
