Two separate investigations are ongoing through Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and its Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit, centred around residential break-ins in Kitchener.
The first reported incident is said to have occurred Friday, Aug. 7, when officers when the local service was called about a reported break-and-enter at a home on Aberdeen Road.
Reports said that the unknown suspects entered the home through the rear of the house and stole belongings before leaving the scene.
Further than that, few details are known at this time about what was stolen and about the suspects in question.
WRPS is asking residents in the area to review any home security footage between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.
The second separate incident occurred a day later on Saturday, Aug. 8, at a home on Stonehenge Place, with police saying, again, unknown suspects entered the home through the rear of the house before taking property from inside and fleeing the scene.
In that case, police are requesting that residents in the areas of Stonehenge Place, Yellow Burch Drive, and Driftwood Place check any home security footage for suspicious persons or vehicles on Aug. 8 between 5:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
WRPS’ Break, Enter, and Vehicle Theft Team is now asking the community to consider a few tips to help prevent similar break-ins in the future, including:
- Keep doors and windows locked, even when home.
- Install audible noise alarm systems.
- Secure residences with home video surveillance cameras in the front and back of the residence.
- Notify neighbours when away for an extended period and arrange to have someone check on your residence.
- Report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity to police.
- If backing on to a green space, consider installing trail cameras.
Anyone with details on either case is asked to reach out to WRPS at 519-570-9777, extension 8255.
