The turbulent times at the pumps are expected to continue heading closer to the weekend in Waterloo Region, as experts expect gas prices to take another climb Thursday, with diesel costs expected to bear the brunt of the climb.
According to Canadians for Affordable Energy, gas prices are expected to climb heading into Thursday, Sept. 17 by as much as 6 cents, marking an average high of $1.88.9 per litre.
The climb comes a week after prices dropped across Waterloo Region, but rose again soon after, with experts pointing to ongoing market pressure, refinery output, and international tensions as key drivers of the fluctuations.
While motorists will be in for a tougher weekend at the pumps, drivers who rely on diesel should expect to see an even steeper impact on their wallets.
Canadians for Affordable Energy predicts gas prices will jump even further, by as much as 16 cents heading into Thursday, expected to hit as high as $2.67.9 per litre.
It continues the trend of consistent climbs for diesel owners, which jumped by 9 cents on Sept. 11.
The climb marks the continuation of what’s been a turbulent season financially at the pumps, all as those fluctuations are only expected to continue impacting residents across Waterloo Region and the country over the coming weeks as the summer begins drawing to a close.
