Arrest made one month after pair of commercial robberies in Kitchener

An arrest has been made by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) in connection with a pair of commercial robberies in Kitchener.

The first incident is said to have happened Aug. 10, at around 10:40 p.m., when officers were told of a robbery at a restaurant in a plaza near Fairway Road South and Wilson Avenue.

The second occurred two days later on Aug. 12, at around 9:50 p.m., when police were told of a robbery at a second restaurant, this time located at Fairway Road North and Lackner Boulevard.

“Investigators learned that a male suspect entered the restaurants, approached employees, and demanded cash from the registers before fleeing with undisclosed amounts of currency,” said WRPS in a release.

“In both incidents, the suspect was described as wearing black pants, a black face covering, and goggles. During the August 10 incident, the suspect was wearing a grey hoodie. During the August 12 incident, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie.”

Across both incidents, WRPS said no injuries were reported.

Now, a month following the first reported incident, regional police have said officers arrested a 21-year-old Kitchener man in connection with the robberies.

He’s now been charged with two counts of robbery as well as two counts of disguise with intent.

The investigation is said to remain ongoing through WRPS’ Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit.
