A big name is coming back to the airwaves for the East Avenue Blue.
The Kitchener Rangers and FM 985 CKWR have officially announced Mike Farwell as the play-by-play voice of the Blueshirts for the rest of the 2026-27 season, set to call every home and away game beginning Friday, Oct. 2.
A familiar voice to Rangers fans, Farwell brings extensive broadcasting experience, a deep connection to Waterloo Region, and a passion for Rangers hockey to the microphone.
“We are really glad to be able to get him back on the radio,” said Scott Jensen, President of FM 985.
“His return ensures fans can follow every goal, save and memorable moment throughout the season, whether the team is taking the ice at The Aud or on the road.”

The announcement builds on the Rangers’ broadcast partnership with FM 985, set to give fans a familiar voice to accompany the defending Memorial Cup champions through the 2026-27 campaign.
“We’re thrilled that CKWR has selected Mike Farwell as the voice of Rangers hockey and that he’ll once again be behind the microphone for us,” said Joe Birch, Chief Operating Officer and Governor of the Kitchener Rangers.
“Mike has a strong connection to our team’s history, our fans and the Waterloo Region community. We know how much his voice means to Rangers fans, and we’re excited to have him calling every home and away game this season.”
Farwell’s first broadcast is officially slated for Friday, Oct. 2, when the Rangers host the Saginaw Spirit at 7 p.m. for Oktoberfest Night at The Aud.

“I love that a locally operated, community-forward radio station has earned the chance to broadcast Kitchener Rangers hockey, and the games sound great,” Farwell said.
“But it’s been really weird to just be a listener. I can’t wait to get back into the broadcast booth and turn on that microphone Friday night.”
Fans can be sure to tune into FM 985 for live coverage of every Rangers home and away game throughout the season.
Broadcasts are also available digitally at ckwr.com, through smart speakers, and on the RadioPlayer Canada and iHeartRadio apps, making it easy to follow the Rangers and stay up-to-date on all things Kitchener Rangers.
