Arrest, charges laid following fatal Wilmot crash: WRPS

An arrest has been made and charges laid following a serious collision in Wilmot Township over the long weekend, which sent four people to hospital and led to the death of a woman from the township.

The incident itself happened on Saturday, Aug. 1, just before 5:00 p.m., when Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) was called about a two-vehicle collision at the corner of Bridge Street and Diamond Road.

Investigators found that a grey Toyota and a white Honda had collided at the intersection, with the driver of the Honda, along with 3 other passengers, being sent to hospital for treatment.

One of those passengers had to be sent to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, meanwhile, a 70-year-old woman from Wilmot Township, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The severity of the incident led to a lengthy investigation, and now, days later, police say they’ve arrested a 24-year-old man from Kitchener.

He was arrested on Aug. 4 and has since been charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Death as well as three counts of Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
