Waterloo regional police have issued a public safety notification, warning residents in Wilmot of a person that was recently released on bail into their community.
According to police, 44-year-old Gregory Zehr was recently released on bail following a court appearance on Wednesday and is living in New Hamburg, bound by release conditions including:
- Residing in New Hamburg, Ontario
- Remaining in the residence or on the property of the residence 24 hours a day unless in the presence of surety
- Having no access to computer or internet
- Not possessing any weapons
Police say that Zehr was recently charged by the London Police Service in connection with an incident in that city on June 4. That incident resulted in charges including:
- Sexual assault with a weapon
- Forcible confinement
- Kidnapping
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon
- Uttering threats of death or bodily harm
Regional police said they are releasing the above information as they believe “doing so is necessary for public safety and to keep the public informed.”
Anyone that may spot Zehr breaching any of his release conditions is warned to not approach him, but to instead call 9-1-1 immediately.
