Some new mobility options will be returning once again to Waterloo Region, but instead of the previously known orange options, residents will be seeing green e-bikes and e-scooters returning to city streets.
The Region of Waterloo announced that those e-options will be hitting the streets of Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo in the coming days, marking the return of the popular program.
“Lime will deploy up to 500 e-bikes and 500 e-scooters and also offers its Lime Assist program for riders of varying abilities,” said the Region of Waterloo.
It comes after the region announced back in July that Neuron Canada, the company behind the previous orange e-bikes and e-scooters, had been bought out by Lime Technology Canada.

Due to existing contracts between the Region of Waterloo and Neuron, further implementation was left at a standstill, with the orange e-bikes and e-scooters having to be taken off the streets until October, when the previous contract was set to expire.
Now, months later and with October just around the corner, the region has said it has continued talks with Lime and is set to bring those mobility options back to the region.
While details have been limited on a full-scale program, to the scale of what was previously seen with Neuron, the region has said it will be offering those 500 e-bikes and e-scooters until Oct. 31.
The specifics of the deal are still unknown, with no mention of what will happen after that Oct. 31 date.
