Regional police have released more information regarding a crash in Waterloo on Wednesday that snarled the drive through a busy stretch of that city – as they now say both of the drivers involved have been charged.
It was around 1:50 p.m. when emergency crews responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Weber Street North and Columbia Street East. That’s right outside of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s North Division headquarters.
According to police, that crash involved a Hyundai travelling westbound on Columbia Street East, and a Honda that was making an attempt to turn left from the eastbound lanes of Columbia Street East onto Weber Street North. Those vehicles ended up colliding, resulting in injuries for both drivers – a 66-year-old woman and a 77-year-old woman. Those injuries were described as non-life-threatening, with both individuals taken to hospital for treatment.
That crash also lead to a closure of northbound lanes of traffic on Weber Street East between University Avenue East and King Street North. The partial closure has since been lifted.
The 66-year-old behind the wheel of the Hyundai has since been charged with amber light – fail to stop.
The 77-year-old that was driving the Honda now faces charges of driving while under suspension, driving a motor vehicle in contravention of conditions and fail to yield.
