One dead, four in hospital following serious Wilmot crash

An investigation into a fatal collision in Wilmot Township is now ongoing for Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), which sent four people to hospital and left one person dead at the scene.

Officers said it happened Saturday, Aug. 1, at around 4:55 p.m., when emergency services were called about the crash at the corner of Bridge Street and Diamond Road.

“Through the initial investigation, it was determined that two vehicles, a grey Toyota and a white Honda, were involved in a collision at the intersection,” said WRPS in a release.

Police said that four people in the Honda, including the 24-year-old Kitchener man behind the wheel, were sent to hospital for treatment.

Three of those individuals were sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a “third passenger in the Honda was transported to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

As for the Toyota, police said that the 70-year-old woman from Wilmot Township who was driving at the time was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the collision is not known at this time, with the investigation still ongoing through regional police’s Traffic Services Unit.
