Two people are in hospital after being stabbed, and multiple bystanders were exposed to bear spray in an early-morning altercation in Waterloo.
The details come from Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), which said officers were called at around 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, after reports came in of an “altercation involving two groups” in the area of King Street North and Princess Street West.
“During the incident, a male youth sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” said WRPS in a release.
“Investigators also determined the youth was sprayed with bear spray during the altercation.”
Officers said that “several bystanders” also suffered minor injuries as a result of the use of bear spray, having to be treated at the scene by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services.
The area had to be closed off for several hours as the initial investigation got underway, but reopened later that morning.
Police added that, following the initial incident, a second male attended a local hospital with knife-related injuries and is also believed to have been involved in the earlier altercation.
At this time, no further details have been released surrounding the two groups involved, potential suspects, or whether any arrests were made following the incident.
