Some new plans are in place for a potential high-rise apartment set to overlook Victoria Park in Kitchener, a project that would be one of the tallest in the surrounding area.
Details have been posted for the new development, showing plans for a 153-unit, 17-storey high-rise at 229 Victoria St. S, right on the western edge of Victoria Park.

The project is being helmed by Iron Horse Flats Inc., Huszary Properties Inc., and KW Property Rentals Inc., which submitted the notice of development for the 17-storey development.

In order for the high-rise to come to life, though, there are a few steps that would need to be taken, including the demolition of three homes in the proposed area along Victoria Street.
As well, the development would have to go through a series of approvals through city council, including a zoning amendment to the current 8-storey height limit.
With a list of impacts and changes right around the corner for the local community, various discussions are on the way for the neighbourhood to have their thoughts heard, including a community meeting Tuesday evening.

That meeting will be held virtually through Zoom at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, the details of which can be found on the City of Kitchener’s website.
After that point, further comments will still be able to be submitted through email until Friday, Sept. 25.
Once all the feedback is rounded up, city staff with the City of Kitchener will then be able to get to work on compiling a list of recommendations for city councillors to review, expected to be presented at a later date.
