World-renowned violinist and 16-time Grammy winner Itzhak Perlman is heading to Waterloo Region, set to take the stage this fall at Centre in the Square.
The local venue announced that Perlman, alongside pianist Rohan De Silva, will be performing in the Raffi Armenian Hall this November.
“The engagement is a rare opportunity for audiences across Southwestern Ontario to see one of the world’s most celebrated musicians without travelling to Toronto,” said Centre in the Square in a release.
“For Kitchener and Waterloo Region, Perlman’s appearance is a significant moment: this marks Itzhak Perlman’s first performance at Centre In The Square.”

It said that the engagement is part of a “broader programming direction” at Centre in the Square, which said it has been spending much of the past two years working to build its global reputation as one of Canada’s leading destinations.
“Bringing an artist of Itzhak Perlman’s stature to Kitchener is exactly the kind of moment we’ve been building toward,” said Eric Larivière, Executive Director of Centre In The Square.
“This is a rare chance for our community, and for the students and new audiences we hope to introduce to a performance like this, to experience one of the great musicians of our time close to home.”
Larivière added that it “reflects the confidence we have in what this city and this region can support.”
Perlman is one of the most decorated violinists across the globe, having been granted the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President Barack Obama in 2015, awarded a National Medal of Arts, 16 Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards, a Genesis Prize, and more.

“Undeniably the reigning virtuoso of the violin, Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician,” said Centre in the Square.
“Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry but also to his irrepressible joy for making music.”
Centre in the Square is located in Downtown Kitchener, with its 2,000-seat Raffi Armenian Hall and the Studio Theatre welcoming more than 150,000 people each year.
The local destination is a not-for-profit registered charity that said it earns roughly 80 per cent of its own revenue, also working to focus on various performers from within the region, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Grand Philharmonic Choir, Kitchener Creates, and more.
Centre in the Square said tickets will go on sale to Priority Plus and above members Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m., before opening to Priority Members Saturday, and opening to the general public on Monday, Sept. 28.
