A local mall in Cambridge is getting set for a blast from the past as a Zellers location may soon be opening its doors at Cambridge Centre Mall.
The details come from listings on the job website Indeed, which show the once-popular retailer is searching for a list of positions to help run a location at the city mall.
Those listings range from assistant manager and key-holder positions to part-time and full-time employment opportunities.
“The company is in a modern relaunch phase, offering a refreshed retail experience centred on affordability, everyday essentials, and a curated selection of apparel, home goods, seasonal products, and lifestyle items,” said Zellers in the posted job description on Indeed.
The online job listings are also joined by new red paint that now adorns a portion of the facade of Cambridge Centre Mall, a classic staple of the Zellers branding.
On its website, Zellers said, “Canada’s beloved Zellers is making a comeback – bringing back the charm and memories we all know and love. Stay tuned for this next chapter.”
The company peaked nationally around the year 2000, when it had roughly 350 locations across Canada, before stores began shutting down in 2013, the last of which closed its doors in 2020.

The well-known brand, though, made a return to stores through smaller pop-up shops within Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) locations as of 2023, all before HBC itself went out of business, filing for creditor protection in 2025.
Zellers had one of those pop-up locations appear at the Hudson’s Bay location in Cambridge Centre Mall in 2023.
Now, though, Zellers said it’s “building a new generation of stores and expanding gradually across Canada as part of its ongoing redevelopment strategy,” with Cambridge being one of the initial areas to see a new location.
“The new Zellers stores aim to combine nostalgic brand recognition with a modern, simplified shopping experience, focusing on friendly customer service, accessible pricing, and a convenient in-store layout.”
As of Oct. 6, 2026, there are two locations open through Zellers, including one operating in Alberta and another in Toronto at 80 Orfus Rd.
In Cambridge, no date has been pegged for an official opening for the Zellers location at Cambridge Centre Mall, but those job listings have a listed target start date of “as soon as possible.”
