Multiple individuals have been charged with various offences after a crash in Kitchener involving an e-bike which Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said “did not comply” with provincial regulations.
Officers said it happened Monday, Oct. 26, at around 9:45 p.m., when emergency services were called about a crash involving an e-bike and a Toyota Camry on Victoria Street North near Frederick Street.
While the driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old man from Woolwich Township, was not injured, the rider on the e-bike, a 52-year-old Kitchener man, had to be taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The area had to be closed to traffic for several hours as the initial investigation and cleanup efforts got underway, reopening later that night.
WRPS has said that the driver of the Toyota has been charged with Turning Not in Safety, while the rider on the e-bike is also facing charges of his own.
“An inspection of the e-bike determined it did not comply with provincial regulations regarding motor size and speed capability and was therefore considered a motor vehicle,” said WRPS in a release.
“The rider was subsequently charged with several offences related to licensing, registration, permit and insurance requirements, as well as driving while under suspension.”
The investigation remains ongoing, with WRPS asking that anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the collision give them a call at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
