With the month of November officially in full swing, experts are taking a look back at what was seen in the skies throughout October, in what was a warm and dry kickoff to autumn across Waterloo Region.
According to the E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station at U-W, the warmth seen in October was particularly noteworthy, with daily highs coming in at over 3°C above average.
“This was a result of the clear skies during most of the month that resulted in high daytime and low nighttime temperatures, said Frank Seglenieks, Coordinator with the local weather station.
“The overall temperature was a little more than one and a half degrees above average, putting it well into the above-average range.”

It comes as the start of November has followed suit in regard to warmer temperatures, with the first few days reaching highs of 18°C and 20°C.
As far as the rain and precipitation seen across the region, it was notably a drier month compared to most others so far in 2026 across Waterloo Region, with more than half of the month’s total rainfall coming down over the first two days of the month.
“The rest of the month was relatively dry, particularly the last 2 weeks. The final total was 68.0 mm, below the average of 78.0 mm,” Seglenieks stated.
“Even with this slightly drier month, the total for the year of 867.9 mm is still well above the average of 750.6 mm.”
Looking ahead, though, residents across the region shouldn’t necessarily expect that dry trend to continue, with possible showers in the forecast from Nov. 3 through to Nov. 8, potentially giving a wetter kickoff to the month as autumn continues for Waterloo Region.
