Guelph Police have arrested 12 people following an investigation into dangerous behaviour during an unsanctioned Homecoming gathering in the city.
The gathering took place on Chancellors Way back on September 26, with police saying that investigators have since identified 12 individuals who they believe were involved in illegal and dangerous behaviour that put people and property at risk.
Officers said those individuals all range in age from 17 to 21 years old, adding that all 12 are facing charges of assault with a weapon, causing a disturbance, and two counts of mischief.
“One of the men also faces an additional charge of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon,” police said in a news release.

All those charged have been released and are scheduled to appear in court.
Police are thanking members of the public who came forward with tips, photos and videos, saying the information played a key role in identifying several individuals.
Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey says the behaviour seen in videos circulating online does not reflect the values of the community.
“A crowd does not provide anonymity, and it doesn’t protect anyone from the consequences of their actions,” said Cobey.
“If you endanger people, property or first responders, we will hold you accountable. This isn’t behaviour our community will look past, and the public’s help has shown that.”
The investigation remains ongoing, with police working to identify several more people seen in videos from the gathering.
Photos of individuals police are looking to identify are available on the Guelph Police website at guelphpolice.ca.
Police say additional charges may follow and are encouraging anyone who recognizes the individuals or has information to come forward.
