FM 985 announces interim commentator through first five Kitchener Rangers games

With their season about to get underway this upcoming weekend, the Kitchener Rangers are continuing to build towards another exciting year, and so is FM 985 CKWR.

After recently being announced as the new radio home for the local hockey team throughout the 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, the station has announced an interim play-by-play commentator through the end of September.

Steve Clarke, who regularly provides television commentary for the Niagara Ice Dogs, and Bayshore Broadcasting’s JC Coutts will each pick up the microphone through the first five games of the season.

“I’m calling a few Kitchener Rangers games to start the season on FM 985 CKWR and The Grand @ 101. Looking forward to it,” said Clarke in a post on social media.

“To answer a couple of questions: 1. No, I’m not leaving the IceDogs TV broadcasts; 2. I’m just doing games Sept. 18, 25, 26, and 27.”

Clarke will provide the play-by-play coverage throughout those four games while Coutts will provide the same commentary for the game against Owen Sound on Saturday, Sept. 19.

FM 985 has specified that the two will act as interim broadcasters with the station until the end of September, expecting to announce its new full-time play-by-play commentator in the coming weeks.
