A list of charges has been laid, including driving while impaired and motor vehicle theft, following an incident involving a two-vehicle crash and a construction truck being stolen in Waterloo.
The details come from Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), which said it first heard of the incident on Oct. 27, at around 3:20 p.m., when reports came in of a collision at the corner of Columbia Street West and Lester Street.
When emergency services arrived, they found that a red Toyota vehicle and a commercial truck had collided in the area.

“Following the collision, the driver of the Toyota attempted to flee the scene by climbing into the driver’s seat of a nearby construction truck,” said WRPS in a release.
“Workers in the area intervened and detained the male driver until police arrival.”
Police said both vehicles involved in the crash sustained heavy damage, but no major physical injuries were reported.
As a result of the incident, the driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old Waterloo man, was arrested and charged with a list of offences, including:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
- Dangerous Operation
- Motor Vehicle Theft
- Failure to stop after accident
The investigation into the matter is still ongoing through regional police, with officers now appealing to anyone “who may have observed the red Toyota’s driving behaviour prior to the collision, witnessed the collision itself, or may have dashcam or cell phone footage of the incident” to contact WRPS at 519-570-9777 extension 7030.
