A busy roadway through Kitchener & Waterloo with a poor reputation will be getting some much needed attention this month.
The Region of Waterloo has begun asphalt resurfacing work on Ira Needles Boulevard, between Yellow Birch Drive and Erb Street West.
According to the project’s roadwork page, that stretch of Ira Needles has faced “accelerated” deterioration of the pavement on the roadway, worsened by winter freeze-thaw conditions.
Work has already begun, expected to stretch through to late October.

Drivers heading through the area can expect to find lane reductions on Ira Needles Boulevard, including through roundabouts, with only one lane open in each direction between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Construction may also result in overnight closures while paving is underway, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., though the region warns those closures will not be in place every night.
Drivers are asked to follow posted detour routes, and to plan for extra travel time.
