If residents across Waterloo Region were hoping that the recent dip in gas prices would stick around, some tough news is on the way, as experts are predicting a jump at the pumps heading into Wednesday.
According to Canadians for Affordable Energy, those gas prices are expected to climb by 7 cents overnight, hitting an average high of $1.68.9 per litre.
It marks quite the turnaround from what was seen heading into the previous weekend, when on Aug. 6, prices dropped by 10 cents to around $1.60.9.
The decline came as there were some signs of progress being made around the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, particularly around the war between the United States and Israel against Iran.
However, with those discussions still continuing and disagreements ever present around the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the pressure on global fuel access is expected to persist, leading to the projected jump at the pumps.
Drivers who rely on diesel are expected to feel a bit extra strain in comparison, as those prices are set to climb by double digits, a 10-cent jump, up to an average high of $2.20.9 per litre.
It all comes amidst an already busy summer travel season, with the demand for fuel heightened as more drivers take to the roads, with those gas prices expected to remain turblent as the weeks continue in 2026.
