E-bike rider dies following serious multi-vehicle crash in Cambridge

A serious multi-vehicle crash in Cambridge is being investigated by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), which led to the death of an e-bike rider involved.

Officers said it all happened Sunday evening, at around 8:15 p.m., when emergency services were called to the area of Franklin Boulevard and Glamis Road due to a reported collision.

When they arrived, they found that multiple vehicles had collided at the intersection, including a Nissan vehicle, a RAM pickup truck, and an e-bike.

At the scene, emergency services found that the drivers of the two vehicles, both 19-year-old men from Cambridge, were uninjured.

The rider on the e-bike, however, a 64-year-old man from the city, was left with serious, life-threatening injuries and had to be transported to an out-of-region hospital for treatment.

WRPS has since confirmed that the 64-year-old later succumbed to their injuries.

The severity of the incident led to a multi-hour closure of the intersection as the initial investigation got underway, but it was reopened later that same night.

Regional police have said the investigation remains ongoing, but at this point, no details have been released about any potential injuries in relation to the incident.
