Regional police have laid arson charges after a multi-unit townhouse fire over the weekend.
It was around 6:30 on Sunday morning when emergency crews responded to the area of Courtland Avenue East and Hillmount Street for that blaze.
According to police, their service had received reports of a man lighting a home on fire.
Details from both Kitchener Fire and local police indicate that fire was encountered on arrival in the exterior entrance to a townhouse building serving two separate units, quickly brought under control.
It’s also since been reported that the units were not occupied at the time of the fire, with no injuries reported to either firefighters or residents.
A release from the Kitchener Fire Department estimated the cost of the damage to be around $200,000.
Police have since located and arrested their suspect, a 34-year-old man.
He now faces a charge of Arson – Disregard for Human Life.
